Mahin Sadri is an Iranian multidisciplinary artist whose work spans poetry, screenwriting, journalism, theater, and film. She began her artistic journey as a poet and later received the Best Screenplay Award from the Iranian Youth Cinema Society. At 21, she directed her first short film in Rasht, and then pursued studies in German in Tehran.
Her work as a journalist—especially her interviews with key figures in Iranian theater—led to a long-term collaboration with Mehr Theatre Group and its artistic director Amir Reza Koohestani. Over two decades, she took on various roles within the company, including assistant director, writer, actress, and director, contributing to more than 20 productions.
Her plays and films often explore themes such as personal and collective identity, memory, and the experiences of women in political and social contexts. These works delve into the struggles and resilience of individuals facing societal pressures, and they reflect a deep engagement with human emotions and the complexity of relationships.
In 2015, her play A Bit More Everyday (Ham-havayi) received the Best Play Award at the Fajr Theater Festival and was later invited to several international festivals. Alongside her theater practice, Mahin also writes, edits, and directs for theater publications and continues to make short films, some of which have been presented at international festivals.
Since 2016, she has collaborated with theaters in Germany, France, and Sweden, focusing on writing, directing, and acting. In 2024, she appeared in The Great Yawn of History, which received the Jury Prize in the Encounters section of the Berlinale.
